Los Angeles, CA – On October 21, our dedicated music teachers and local educators joined together for Education Through Music-LA’s (ETM-LA) comprehensive 2025 Fall Academy. Attendees explored a wide range of subjects such as integrating project-based learning, preparing for winter performances, fostering culturally responsive classrooms, and supporting diverse learners through Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Teachers and staff alike were thrilled to continue their journeys of professional development and lifelong learning!
Fall Academy featured a dynamic series of interactive presentations, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations, all led by ETM-LA’s devoted program staff. Participants dove into over 15 sessions spanning a multitude of essential topics, such as Start Strong with Orff: A Sing, Dance, Play Approach; BandLab Basics: A Lab-Based Approach to Teaching Music Technology; Swing into Learning: Teaching Jazz in the Upper Elementary Music Classroom; Meeting Every Milestone: Integrating Special Needs Support with Yardsticks Framework; and Mabuhay! Classroom Readiness for Filipino American History Month. Sessions were thoughtfully designed to support music teachers of all levels, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to grow, connect, and refine their craft for the fall semester.
During a time of reflection, team members shared: “My most valuable takeaway is incorporating literature and using your imagination.” Another participant stated, ”I enjoyed having different perspectives from teachers about tough situations.” ETM-LA Director of Community Affairs & Partnerships Tiffiny Reckley offered, “It’s one thing to go into a training prepared to drop gems of wisdom and knowledge, but to come out on the other side inspired by what our teachers do with it is next-level fulfillment. Not only are the teachers engaged in the process, but they are committed to the action of making changes to impact the systems of community and education.”
ETM-LA is so eager to see how this hard work will enrich our classrooms and strengthen our teachers’ vital role as educators!
We are resolute in amplifying and prioritizing the voices of our students and communities. Therefore, Cultural Equity and Inclusion (CEI), Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT), and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) remain fundamental in our ongoing practices and training.
