Our Mission
In 2006, Education Through Music-Los Angeles (ETM-LA) was founded with the mission to provide and promote quality music education in under-resourced schools as part of the core curriculum for every child in order to nurture students’ academic achievement, and their creative and overall development. We partner with school districts and schools to further equity and access for students in historically marginalized communities.
The Problem
Less than 25%
Less than 25% of elementary and middle schools in LA County have a Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) music teacher. Unfortunately, Los Angeles students in predominantly marginalized communities can go K-8th grade without music education. See Data
Lack of Teachers
California has fewer credentialed music teachers enter the workforce than what is needed. Schools need guidance to build long-term, comprehensive music programs amidst a lack of qualified music teachers. Read More
