The song appears on the soundtrack for Sing 2, and its music video highlights a partnership with Education Through Music
SING 2 Releases in Theaters on DECEMBER 22, 2021
In advance of Sing 2, Illumination, Universal Pictures and Republic Records have joined forces to support Education Through Music (ETM) which provides music as a core subject for all children in under-resourced schools across the nation. As part of this partnership, Education Through Music-Los Angeles figures prominently in the music video for the first release from the Sing 2 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, U2’s “Your Song Saved My Life”.
The riveting video was directed by Aya Tanimura (Katy Perry “Roar,” Alessia Cara “How Far I’ll Go”) and stars real-life students and teachers from the ETM program. Voiceovers and subtitles tell their stories of finding strength in music and triumphing under the watch of the instructors as the song sets the tone. It concludes with an important call-to-action.
“Any negativity around me; anything that worries me [or] makes me anxious, that just goes away when I play the trumpet or play with my bandmates.” said José Santiago.
Mentor and Teacher Damien Graham reflected, “We thrive when people normalize our struggle and let us know that it’s okay.”
“The feeling of loneliness, of depression, feeling like I had no one… music really helped me overcome it,” said Eliana Racoma (pictured above).
“Illumination’s Sing 2 is a film that champions people with big dreams and celebrates the power of music to move and inspire audiences of all ages,” Sing 2 Producer & CEO of Illumination Chris Meledandri said. “Through its incredible programs, Education Through Music makes dreams possible for children…across the country, elevating the minds and spirits and futures of young people. We could not be prouder to join forces with them and support their critically important work, however we can.”
