BURBANK, CA – Music teachers and educators from across Los Angeles attended ETM-LA’s annual Winter Training Institute, held at American Federation of Musicians Local 47 in Burbank.

Music Teacher Brandon Encinas leads a Suzuki workshop during ETM-LA’s Winter Training Institute on Tuesday, January 7.

Our dedicated program staff conducted a two-day series of workshops covering topics such as student engagement, movement, music composition, curriculum design, instrumental technique, and music technology. The workshops implemented a variety of pedagogical styles such as Kodály, Orff, and Suzuki. The participants gained invaluable insight and new ideas.  One teacher shared that they learned “so many activities! I won’t have to worry about running out of lesson plans,” while another remarked that they appreciated going deeper on “THE PROCESS…; the little things matter and I’m glad I got to see it all broken down for a first day.”

Classes ranged from early childhood to middle school-focused, including “Teaching a Song: Weaving it into a Lesson Plan,” “Teaching Multiple Instruments at Once,” “Composing with Your Ensemble,” and “Intro to Violin Technique for Elementary School.”

An ETM-LA teacher shared, “I’m excited to try a lot of new methods with my own students.

Music teachers in ETM-LA’s network receive over 100 hours of professional development workshops, personal mentorship, and coaching, as well as access to educational resources.
