Students Go ‘Far and Wide’ with Songwriter Liz Rose & Phil Barton

studentsatcmhofSept. 26, 2016 – Los Angeles:  ETM-LA Students from Dorris Place Elementary’s 6th Grade partnered up with Grammy-Winning Liz Rose (Taylor Swift) and Phil Barton to open Country Music Hall of Fame’s All for the Hall event at the Novo DTLA.  Not any typical performance, what made this unique was that the children got to debut their co-written song (with Rose and Barton) “Far and Wide.”  The children worked with Rose and Barton through video Skype to craft the words and music – and were ecstatic have received a standing ovation by the audience of over 300 country music lovers.

The evening offered dazzling performances of legendary and favorite artists who came together in song and sharing stories: Vince Gill, James Taylor, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, and Joe Walsh. “You’ve Got a Friend”, “Family is Family”, “You Can Close Your Eyes”, and “Merry Go Round” highlighted the range of styles from the group.

Education Through Music-LA was grateful for the partnership with Country Music Hall of Fame which seeks to promote song-writing skills and experiences across the nation with their Words and Music Program.  “Seeing the kids’ faces light up during rehearsal and on stage reminds us all why we do what we do. I hope it was as memorable for them as it was for us,” shared Heidi Egloff from CMHOF.   Parent Leader at Dorris Place’s Partners of Dorris (POD) “teared up (as usual) watching them rehearse today and was just completely filled with gratitude. This was simply magical.”
