COMMUNICATIONS INTERN –
Job Description
The Communications Intern will work with the Education Through Music-LA staff to develop a marketplace competitive analysis, which will inform the development of a suite of communications materials, including a program information brochure, spotlight stories, and our annual newsletter. For this project, the intern will research what other organizations are doing successfully to help inform best practices in communication and publicity. Additionally, the ETM-LA’s Communications Intern will analyze our communication channels to help tailor messaging to have the greatest impact for various avenues and demographics. Finally, the intern will assist with program and development data evaluation/assessment to develop a deeper understanding of the data for marketing purposes.
$15/hour; 400 hours to be completed in 10 weeks (40 hours per week)
Qualifications
The intern should display an earnest interest in music and music education and must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable. Interest in Communications/PR, graphic design, and writing is favorable for this position. Basic computer skills, such as Excel and Word, as well as advanced knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop are necessary. Being an initiative taker and a team-player with an interest in the field of education, a positive attitude, personal motivation, and a desire to learn about nonprofit organizations are also a must.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
2021 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 – December 1, 2021. The Department of Arts and Culture encourages eligible students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as students with disabilities, to apply. Eligible students may participate in the program once.
NOTE:
- Students who have already earned a BA, BS, or a higher degree are not eligible for the Los Angeles County Arts Internship Program.
- Students who have previously participated in the program are not eligible to participate a second time.
- Students who are invited to participate in the program will be asked to provide verification of eligibility via college transcripts, driver’s license, and other documents to show enrollment status and/or LA County residence.
