In Memory of Natalie de los Reyes

Natalie de los Reyes dedicated her life to music, education and her family. She was born in Los Angeles and began singing, dancing and acting at an early age. In her career, which spanned 50 years in Los Angeles, she taught elementary school music, middle school band, high school choir and English. She served as teacher, head counselor and middle school and high school assistant principal. She created the Mt. Gleason Middle School marching band from scratch and led several musical productions at Taft High School.

Natalie received her undergraduate degree from Cal State Los Angeles. She earned a lifetime credential for teaching K-12 music and secondary English. She later earned a Masters Degree in both school counseling and school administration from Cal State Los Angeles and Cal Lutheran. While the majority of her career was dedicated to the Los Angeles Unified School District, she later mentored teachers at the University of Phoenix and received “Teacher of the Year” honors in 2014.
In her free time she enjoyed travel and music, often combining those two passions singing in choirs that traveled the world including performances in Russia and China.  While Natalie leaves a legacy of music and education, her greatest love was for her family including her husband, two children and four grandchildren.

We invite you to honor Natalie’s legacy and love of teaching music through the Natalie de los Reyes Memorial Fund to help keep music in under-resourced schools for students across Los Angeles County.
