Director of Community Affairs & Partnerships

The Director of Community Affairs & Partnerships will be a full-time, exempt position. The Director of Community Affairs & Partnerships will directly report to and will work closely with the Executive Director, as well as work alongside the Director of Programs (Curriculum & Professional Development) as part of the Senior Management team at Education Through Music-Los Angeles. The Director of Community Affairs & Partnerships will help further the mission by serving as a member of the leadership team to foster and develop top-notch educational strategies and school-wide music programs to ensure every child, regardless of socio-economic status, receives quality music education in order to reach their fullest potential.

 

Job Description:

 

School Partnerships (40%)

  • Manage ongoing relationships with district & school administration, including but not limited to: application, recruitment, planning, graduation, and special events
  • Manage and execute Scopes and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with School/District Partners with consultation from Director of Programs & Executive Director
  • Promote sustainability of music programs and implementation of credentialed music teachers (3-5 Year Plans) among School/District Partners
  • Promote ETM-LA’s programs (consultant school and in school programs) & Professional Development to prospective partners
  • Work closely with Director of Programs on school assessment & selection to determine status of partnerships
  • Provide content for summary reports on school partnerships
  • Cultivate Relationships with district leaders

 

Other Key Partnerships (20%)

  • Facilitate partnerships with local universities and colleges to increase interest and awareness among young adults in the field of music education
  • With the Executive Director and key program personnel, help build strategies on teacher credentialing pathways with educational entities, LA County Office of Education, and district administration/leaders.
  • Facilitate the continued growth and building of engagement activities with guest artists including but not limited to: world-renowned composers and musicians, guest speakers, workshop clinicians, coaches, and more
  • Facilitate the continued growth and building of engagement activities with partner organizations (new and ongoing) including but not limited to: LA’s Best of the Mayor’s Office, local and national chapters of Orff, Kodály, and Suzuki, Music Industry and Tech Companies, American String Teachers Association, CA Music Education Association, LA County Arts Ed Collective, Create CA, and more
  • Build additional key partnerships and strategies around STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math); further develop opportunities for students in music technology/keyboarding/production/composition.

 

Community Outreach & Workshops (20%)

  • Identify & build relationships with local and national businesses, government officials, school board members, civic groups, and other organizations
  • Stay up-to-date on political issues impacting our field, & ways to be an advocate
  • Engage parent groups in community building efforts to create awareness, mobilize and advocate for music education
  • Parent engagement strategy and execution
  • Schedule, publicize, and facilitate Community-based workshops; provide content and organize speakers/topics for workshops
  • Research and update calendars of workshops (both ETM-LA provided and external)

 

Performances (15%)

  • Coordinate and oversee student performances for community and special events (e.g. Music Unites the World, Paramount Studios, Annual Benefit Gala, Angel’s Flight)
  • Coordinate and oversee community-based student performances

 

Other (5%)

  • Identify strategies for stakeholders & staff to advocate for ETM-LA
  • Educate Board, staff on trends in music education policies
  • Stay up to date on systems and political issues (including elected officials voting records, budgets)
  • Advise and provide information for onboarding curriculum around school demographics and cultural aspects
  • Support the alignment, orientation, and rollout of partner programs (“Get to Know School Community”)

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education
  • Five (5) years of experience in music/music education with a proven track record for building successful partnerships
  • Understanding of / experience with musical ensembles and vocal/instrumental/keyboard performance

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of a range of musical repertoire and genres
  • High Emotional Quotient (EQ) with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate, including MS Office Suite
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, mid-sized organization as part of a collaborative environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Mission-driven; team player; initiative-taker

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree (Music, Music Education and/or Education Administration/Leadership)
  • 5+ years work among under-resourced communities
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of musical theory and notation literacy
  • Vocal or instrumental performance capabilities, particularly piano or vocal

 

Pay and Work Schedule:

  • Salary range: $64,480-$95,000/yr commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time, exempt position

  • Location of office: Burbank, CA

 

Working Conditions: 

Office environment with regular travel each month to partner schools or clients located throughout Los Angeles County. Occasional travel outside Los Angeles may be required. Must use your own vehicle for work purposes other than driving to and from work (such as running errands for work). Mileage will be reimbursed by ETM-LA.
