1. ETM-LA Reaches an Unprecedented # of Students
2. Incredible Experiences with Michael Giacchino
Academy Award-Winning Composer Michael Giacchino joined the ETM-LA Advisory Board in our inaugural year and continues to inspire our students and to champion music in our schools.
3. Alumna Sunny Continues to Find Joy Through Music
Sunny was just a 2nd grader when we first met her at our partner school, Castelar Elementary. Now in high school, Sunny still performs at special ETM-LA events including our galas, the Skirball Cultural Center, and the Staples Center!
4. Then and Now –
Music Unites the World Festival
Our first Music Unites the World Festival, which brings together students from our partner schools across LA County, began as a one-day event with 115 students participating. Now the festival is held over two days with 740 students!
5. Joshua Bell Keeps the Music Playing
Early in ETM-LA’s history, Grammy-Winning violinist Joshua Bell delighted our students by visiting their classroom. In 2017, he returned to perform onstage with our students as a Shining Star Honoree at our 12th Annual Benefit Gala!
6. ETM-LA’s Recognition Grows
In 2008, ETM-LA received recognition from City Council for our service. Beyond 2018, ETM-LA continues to expand our reach and students have performed at major landmarks including Paramount Studios, The Novo-Microsoft, The Grove, & the Staples Center (LA Sparks’ halftime show)!
7. Where Are They Now - A Former Music Teacher
Jonathan Beard began teaching with ETM-LA during the organization’s first year — now he is an Associates Board Member, spreading the word and supporting our mission!

Life imitates art imitates life…from the Forum Gallery’s Hip Hop Exhibit to welcoming Common as a featured guest honoring Paramount’s Randy Spendlove.
10. Students Are Reaching Their Potential
Over the years, McKinley Elementary School in Compton has seen an upwards trend in test scores and attendance rates. Since receiving in-school music education from ETM-LA, they have gone from being at the bottom in attendance to becoming #1 among all 21 elementary schools in Compton Unified.
