On Saturday, March 7, Education Through Music-Los Angeles joined community members and nonprofit partners at the Annual LA 5K, an event that brings ~8,000 runners and walkers to raise funds for local causes. In honor of Music In Our Schools Month, ETM-LA joined the LA 5K for the second year running, and welcomed over 50 participants and supporters, whose collective fundraising efforts helped expand equitable access to high-quality music education for students across five Los Angeles districts.
One participant, Michelle New, shared before the race: “Music was a subject that really helped me thrive in school and I think it’s important that every child has the chance to see how music can help them. I am not a runner by any means, but this was a fun way to challenge myself for a cause I believe in.”
Board Member Linda Mouradian returned to the 5K after participating in last year’s race to support ETM-LA again. “My affiliation with ETM-LA is one of the high points in my 46-year music education career. ETM-LA is 100% aligned with my personal philosophy that music education is essential for all students. The 5K fundraiser was an event for me and those who support me and my goals to continue to shine light on ETM-LA and all the magnificent musical and social opportunities they are giving students in the most underserved communities. I will continue to serve ETM-LA in any way that promotes the things that mean the most to me and the students we teach.”
Charity Village – where participants ended the race – hosted ETM-LA’s booth along with other nonprofits, creating connections and synergy among our local communities.
