Music Education Builds Leadership: Meet 5th Graders Anabel and Isabel

“Since I’ve been sining, I feel more confident in myself.”

– Isabel, 5th grade

All of us at ETM-LA are so grateful for your dedication to furthering equity and access to high-quality music education in under-resourced schools across Los Angeles County. Because of your support, choir students and sisters Anabel and Isabel have grown into confident leaders.

Music helps me let go of my shyness. I got the opportunity to be the emcee at a school concert and I was nervous, but music class helped me prepare for and enjoy it.   – Anabel, 5th Grade

Music education fosters students’ teamwork, responsibility, and leadership skills (Clausius Scientific Press, 2024). Yet, marginalized school communities provide less access to music and face greater barriers to increasing access to music instruction (CreateCA, 2022).

Music class has given the girls an opportunity to be leaders. They share experiences, offer help and support to classmates, and at the same time ask for help when needed.”   Ana, Mother

Every child deserves the right to music in school as part of a well-rounded education. Because of your unwavering dedication, students like Anabel and Isabel receive access to life-changing music instruction in school.
