"It’s so important for all kids to have access to arts education in public schools, because they become more expressive and open-minded to other cultural experiences."
October, 2025
On October 12th, ETM-LA hosted the 5th Annual Music & A Makeover event in Burbank at Audrey *K Boutique. Making a special and delicious appearance was local Cafe 86, a Filipino bakery that is more than just a café; they are a celebration of flavors and a haven for community. Cafe 86 commits to giving back to the community and supporting music education in schools. ETM-LA is honored to partner alongside Cafe 86.

Can you share more about your background and heritage, and what inspired you to become a Cafe 86 franchisee?
I was born in the Philippines, in the city of Manila. I migrated over to America in 1993 and pursued a career of being a dental assistant. Migrating over to this country when it was just becoming a melting pot for cultures everywhere, I felt it was important to bring my own heritage and cultural traditions to new communities. When I initially moved here, I lived in Glendale and now live in Burbank; and now, I have two locations dedicated to both cities. It’s amazing and truly inspiring to see other people experiencing Filipino culture for the first time, from our own Halo Halo tradition to trying the special Ube flavor incorporated into our desserts, especially created by our good friend Ginger Dimapasok. Her story about how she founded this brand is just as inspiring to hear, and she’s been a special help in helping our Burbank location thrive. To become a franchisee of Cafe 86 and help push the incentive of introducing our Filipino-American fusion desserts to other parts of California is an honor, and we cannot be more proud of what we accomplished with our new Cafe 86 location.
How have the arts and culture influenced you?
Cafe 86 shows how art and creativity can turn food into an experience. Our desserts aren’t just delicious—they’re beautiful and unique, showing how culture and creativity go hand in hand. It’s amazing to see how we can take traditional Filipino desserts and expand them into broader fields so everyone can experience how special the Filipino food palate can truly be.
Why are arts and arts education important for all children to have in public schools?
It’s so important for all kids to have access to arts education in public schools, because they become more expressive and open-minded to other cultural experiences. The arts help students build confidence, think creatively, and understand different perspectives. Every child deserves the chance to discover their talents and find their voice through the arts.
