Gary Shields, Director of Community Affairs and Partnerships, is a pianist, composer, music educator, and passionate arts administrator. Prior to joining ETM-LA, Gary was the Administrative Director for the Organization of American Kodály Educators. Gary also worked in the Education Initiatives Department of the GRAMMY Foundation as Group Supervisor for GRAMMY Camp and has development experience with the Nashville Symphony. Gary received his B.M. from Vanderbilt University and his M.M. from the University of Southern California, where he studied composition with Morten Lauridsen, Frank Ticheli, and Erica Muhl, as well as harpsichord with Lucinda Carver. While a graduate student at USC, Gary was a mentee of GRAMMY and Emmy award-winning film composer, Thomas Newman. Gary is excited to support and expand ETM-LA’s mission of bringing music to every child.
